Life at DurhamGate
We are proud to host regular events for our residents and the wider community. Each year we host a Summer Festival with fairground activities, music and live entertainment, Christmas Shopping Trip to York, Christmas Festival and Lights Switch On, Easter Bunny Egg Chocolate Egg Delivery, Day at the Races to name but a few.
To promote the sense of community we have developed our own social website lifeatdurhamgate.com where we engage with the people and businesses in and around DurhamGate. The feedback we have on this work is really positive and rewarding.
Life’s good at DurhamGate.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme
DurhamGate and partners have invested both time and financial support to the DurhamGate Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme, supporting various groups and enabling new groups to set up in South West Durham. Our aim is to assist young people to gain life skills and work placement opportunities with partner organisations, whilst completing their award. The links to businesses provide the young person invaluable opportunities and gives them a helping hand in the long term goal of securing employment. As well as gaining valuable employability skills, the young people are offered the opportunity of C.V. writing, mock interviewing and networking.
Each year DurhamGate, in addition to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Charity, selects another charity or charities to support. In 2014 we were proud to host THE BLOOMING GREAT TEA PARTY BUS TOUR and THE BLOOMING GREAT TEA PARTY SUMMER FESTIVAL in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. The bus tour took to the roads with the Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts and Cinderella Stilt Walkers, visiting 10 local schools over two days, providing music, entertainment and games whilst a tea party took place raising money for the charity. And finally after the bus tour a Summer Festival took place at DurhamGate, over 1000 people turned out to support the charity and enjoyed an action packed afternoon with food stalls, community stalls, fairground rides, balloon modelling, magic, music, bouncy castle and much more. We were delighted to raise over £3500!
